Research Day, Nov. 9, 2009
Our thanks to all those who made this such a special day, the Concierge and Tour Guide participants and the wonderful hospitality of our gracious hosts. It was a great day of all of us
getting to know each other better.
Starting the Day at Paradigm.
The group with Vintner Ren Harris.
Quite perfect as our first winery of the day as Paradigm was a great example of what a Napa Valley winery should be. The Zinfandel was amazing; I thought it was quite complex and earthy. We also tried the Cabernet and Merlot which were well structured and very ripe in the mouth. Ren Harris gave an amazing tour of the estate, and had some great stories of the Valley, of course giving out no names. It is always an amazing experience to have the owner give the tour and have all the great details that are always asked about.

Our second stop at Anomaly was a real treat.
Steve and Seth Goldfarb
are so down to earth and welcoming it's like coming home, they make you
feel like your part of their family as if you were right there when
they we planting the vines. A great experience for all guests, their
cellar is so beautiful and charming with a fabulous bronze of their
logo a must see. Once again a great wine and a great time!

Arger-Martucci: Our one stop of the day that was unplanned. Anne was our gracious host as we tried both the Iliad and the Odyssey from their list of impressive wines. The Iliad was our first white wine of the day and was quite refreshing on our pleasantly warm November day. The Odyssey was a fun red blend that had a great complexity and notes of spice. The property itself was tucked away on Inglenook road and had a great family feel to it that makes me want to send my best friends. Tyson Miller, Concierge at Solage Resort

Our next stop was 750 Wine Studio with our own David Stevens as our host. David has found a most unique and amazing space in the little town of Saint Helena, as unique as David himself. David has a wonderful ability to ferret out some of the most wanted and unique wines in the valley, we were all treated with not only wonderful wines but a faboulous lunch served to us by the owner of aka Bistro. I would suggest if you haven't had a chance to partake of aka Bistro make a little time to stop in and enjoy.

750 Wines is the crown Jewel of the Valley. The
lunch and wine and space and most especially the hosts are amazing.
The Champagne and Pinot Gris were a great pairing with the salad and
Beet Terrine. When the Pasta was brought out to complement the Shafer
Hillside Select, right then I had a perfect Napa Valley moment with
good food, good wine and good friends. The space compliments David’s
goal of having the best wine experience in the Valley.

William Cole: This winery is has a connection to the first Murder in St. Helena, and to the first female winemaker. Blake Chambers did an excellent job of touring us about this great boutique producer of fine Cabernet Sauvignon. I think I am more impressed that Bill Ballentine does all of the work at the winery by himself than by anything else about the property.
The stone building is amazing, the garden and outside patio are amazing and most importantly the hospitality was casual and expertly executed.

Realm Cellars located at Chateau Boswell was an outstanding visit. The caves were the largest in diameter that I have seen in the Napa Valley. Juan did an amazing job conveying the history of the property as well as the process that Realm goes through to make great wines each harvest. All of their wines were excellent, and were sourced from some of the best fruit in the Napa Valley. The tour was implemented in a fun way as well, starting in the cellar, going through the caves, and exiting through a large cave door to finish the tasting.

Hunnicutt Cellars was a great finish to a great day. Justin Stephens the owner did a wonderful job of making us welcome, along with Jennifer, their hospitality director. The wines were fun and unpretentious like Napa Valley should be. The Cabernet was my favorite with a subtle yet firm flavor and a beautiful bouquet. The property is beautiful and the plans for the future are also amazing. I also liked the second label Cutt, with its fearless wine and fun blend that was surprisingly well rounded and very delicious.

With the expert guidance of Juan Mercado of Realm Cellars we tasted three years of great wines and barrel tasted in the caves. Juan is so cordial and full of knowledge it's a pleasure interacting with him. Realm isn't up and coming it has arrived.
